Crate Chair - July 26th (10:00 AM - 5:00 PM) with Martin Thornell

Build a stylish and comfortable outdoor lounge chair.  

This chair is a variation on the “crate chair”designed in 1934 by Dutch designer Gerrit Thomas Rietveld. The original was produced using wood salvaged from packing crates; this version will be constructed using pine boards.

The class will involve milling and cutting the components and assembling the chair. A variety of machine tools, including the jointer, planer, table saw and mitre saw will be used. Similar to the original, this piece is held together with screws and bolts rather than joints.

All participants will leave with a complete chair ready to be painted or otherwise finished.
