The timber mark, like a rancher’s brand, was the unique identifying mark with which the lumberman identified their property. Carved or impressed into each piece of floated wood, the mark was the only method by which one company's production could be separated from another’s during the crowded log drives on local rivers.
This collection of some of Canada's earliest design and branding showcases 81 timber marks dating back to as early as 1870. These marks were primarily sourced from the out-of-print 'Registered Timber Marks of Eastern Canada' by Diane Aldred. They were digitally reproduced and locally screen printed on 18" x 24" stock.
