This intro to woodworking course is being offered specifically for women, to let there be no mistake, a woman's place is in the shop!
On the first of this 2 day course instructor Tamar Tsun will begin with an introduction to wood itself. You will learn about its composition, properties and behaviour. How these aspects of wood challenge and benefit the woodworker will be discussed as well as the terminology used to describe them.
Information on various hand tools will come next and Tamar will demonstrate their safe use and handling. The last lecture will be on common woodworking joinery and their application.
Then it will be time to apply all that knowledge! Starting with some scrap for practice you will get a chance to get your hands dirty and put tools to wood!
From testing out on scrap you will move on to crafting your own lidded wooden box. The remainder of day one and all of day two will be spent gaining experience and honing skills. With a low ratio of teacher to student there will be lots of room for questions and one on one instruction as you solidify what you have learned and make something to show for it!
Saturday, March 11th 10:00am - 5:00pm and
Sunday, March 12th 10:00am - 5:00pm (14 hours)
* Courses are transferable to another person, but non-refundable. Please ensure they work with your schedule.
