Hand-Carved Canoe Paddle (April 28, 9:00am - 5:00pm)

The full day paddle course begins by looking at various paddle shapes, designs and the tools we'll be using to carve them. Paddles will be custom designed based on participant's preferences and body types. We'll walk you through your options and ensure you're well on your way to carving a beautiful custom paddle. 

In our full day we'll be shaping local hardwood cherry down into something sleek and ready for the water. By the end of the day we'll have them sanded and ready for finish.

Andy Convery of Echo Paddles taught our very first course carving solid cherry canoe paddles at the OCW back in May, 2015 and is back for his second. An experienced woodworker, paddle maker and instructor, he has been guiding canoe trips and making paddles since 1991. Currently he makes custom paddles and canoes out of his shop in Chelsea.
